Find the Word Riddles
Here are some word puzzles that have you searching for a word (typically in the English dictionary) that satisfies the given characteristics.
The answer is (sort-of) hidden in the question... "Disposseses" posseses more s's than "possesses" possesses. The answer (there are multiple examples) has 9 letters. Note that there are two (or four, depending on which dictionary you use) 10-letter answers, but these are not common (and questionable in terms of if they should count). There are several 9-letter 1-syllable words, e.g: {scratched, screeched, squelched, stretched}. The 10 letter answers that appear in some dictionaries are: {schmaltzed, strengthed, scraunched, scroonched}.
There is also a 10 or 11 letter answer (alternate spellings of the same word), but officially this particular word is pronounced as 2-syllables, not one.
A word that is officially 2-syllables, but can sound 1-syllable, that has 10 or 11 letters (depending on spelling) is: squirrelled / squirreled.
